Ernst Haas (1921-1986) was one of nine Magnum photographers who documented the production of author Arthur Miller and director John Huston’s The Misfits. Although Clark Gable, who plays the cowboy Gay Langland and becomes romantically involved with Roslyn Taber (Marilyn Monroe), performed most of his own stunts, the images above show how a stuntman roped one of the wild mustangs on the set.
