During his numerous visits to France throughout the 1930s, Roman Vishniac captured the everyday life and events of the people of Paris as well as of the south of France on film.

In these never before-seen images, Vishniac presents the famous French game of pétanque as played by the local men of the Provence region, the birthplace of the game.

Next time you visit ICP, stop by Bryant Park for a post-visit game of pétanque, the French game of boules!
