Carlo Bavagnoli, [Jane Fonda wearing space-age costume in publicity still for Roger Vadim’s film Barbarella], 1968
Life, March 29, 1968, p. 66:
When Jane began her motion picture career, people expected her to become the girl next door just as her father had always been the boy and man next door. Some girl next door. Barbarella is directed by her husband Roger Vadim, by whom she is expecting a child this fall. In it she plays a French comic-strip character who never lets clothes cramp her style—when she gets around to wearing any—as she gallivants from galaxy to galaxy. Vadim even offered his famous father-in-law a major part as President of the World. Fonda huffily declined, saying, in effect, not on your tintype.
