Petroleum People in Pennsylvania, ca. 1870s

Unidentified Photographer, [Oil Fields, Pennsylvania], ca. 1870s

Petroleum people posing presciently, not pedestrianly, on period transportation (a horse, of course) in Pennsylvania (a link to Oil City, PA, “a special blend of people”).

According to the The Paleontological Research Institution, Pennsylvania produced half of the world’s oil until 1901.
