Candida Höfer’s early (late 1970s) series examines the preternaturally patterned domestic and commercial spaces of Turkish Gastarbeiter (guest workers) in Cologne and Hamburg (similar terrain as Fassbinder’s Ali, Fear Eats the Soul, 1974).
