… (The Observations of a Male Chauvinist Pig) was Garry Winogrand’s 1967 title and subtitle of the book (the subtitle was dropped after the phrase fell out of favor) Women are Beautiful, 1975. As Winogrand (1928–1984) stated in a revealing and rollicking talk, full of pregnant pauses and lacking visual aids, on April 5, 1979, at ICP… It all began with a joke, via Norman Mailer; to paraphrase: If you think my grandchild is so cute, you should see his picture.

“I shoot just about everyday.”
“I use Leicas mostly, with a 35 or 28mm lens.”
“You don’t know when I’m taking a picture.”
“It’s about how things look.”
“What I photograph is banal; life is banal.”

You can hear a recording of Winogrand’s ICP lecture here.

Is there a place to download an mp3 of the Winogrand recording? All the browers I try and load the audio player on just give me a constant “loading…” sign.

Thanks for all the great posts!!! btw.
